Why is My Pet's Dental Health Important?

A commonly asked question in our office and many other veterinarian's offices is, "Why is brushing my pet's teeth so important?" or, "Why are you recommending a costly dental procedure for my pet?"

Proper dental care can prevent dental disease that not only affects the mouth, but can also lead to more serious health problems such as heart, lung, and kidney disease. Good dental hygiene is just as important for pets as it is for humans. Yet, it is one of the most overlooked areas in pet health. Studies by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) reveal that nearly two-thirds of pet owners do not provide the dental care recommended by veterinarians.

Regular teeth brushing is not only about freshening up your pet's breath, it is essential to the overall health of your pet. Not all pets will willingly let you brush their teeth, so if you are unable to do so, we would gladly help you at your next appointment. 

Routine dental cleanings are less costly than oral surgery such as extractions, periodontal disease treatment, and endodontics like root canals. Being proactive is a way to maintain your pet's dental health and smile.

Piper's Dental Cleaning
